Two of the top three pitchers in the M.I.N.K. League are scheduled to battle tonight at Liberty Park Stadium.
Game 2 of the league championship series was rained out Saturday night at Liberty Park Stadium.
The game between the Chillicothe Mudcats and Sedalia Bombers has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. today.
The Bombers (36-8) hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Game 3, if necessary, would be Monday night.
Chillicothe native Sean Potter will start for the Mudcats. Potter ranks second in the league with his 1.72 ERA. He is 4-2 in six starts with 35 strikeouts and 15 walks in 40 2-3 innings.
“We haven’t faced him,” Bombers manager Jud Kindle said, “but I’ve heard horror stories about him.”
Potter will oppose Danny Potje, who is 4-0 with a 1.75 ERA in seven starts. Potje, who ranks No. 3 in ERA, has struck out 45 and walked 17 in 36 innings.
“He’s been consistent,” Kindle said. “He throws strikes. He’s a guy (who throws) in the mid- to upper-80s. He does a good job of commanding the zone.”
Sedalia third baseman Kyle Hardy, who sprained an ankle Friday night, is doubtful for tonight’s game as is closer Aaron Kleekamp, who has a foot injury.
Kindle expects Brian Thompson and Dan Kickham, who both pitched Friday night, to be available for Game 2.
Thompson picked up the win in relief, allowing one run on one hit with two walks and one strikeout in three innings.
Kickham pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to record the save.
