Taste of Cole Camp moving to new venue

February 5, 2013

Organizers of the Taste of Cole Camp are hoping a new location will help improve the experience for the more than 300 visitors that are expected to attend the annual event this year.

Sam Cole, who headed up the event committee for the Cole Camp Chamber of Commerce, said this year’s food fair, slated to begin at 5 p.m. Feb. 18, has moved from the traditional American Legion hall venue to new digs at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Auditorium, 705 S. Hickory St., in Cole Camp.

“We are excited to be in a new location this year. We think it will be a little more accessible,” Cole said. “When we were in the American Legion building, people had to go to the basement, and it was hard to get up and down the steps with a full plate of food. So, we are going to try this and see if it works.”

Cole said the annual event is “a chance for local businesses to show off to the public and let people see what they have to offer.”

This is Cole’s first year heading up the event committee, but she attended last year and will be a vendor at this year’s fair after opening The German Table in March of last year.

“I am going to bring a selections of wursts (sausages), sauerkraut and kolpse, which is a German meatball in a caper sauce,” Cole said.

The event is known to attract between 300 and 500 visitors, and, Cole said, “is a good media and PR means for people to promote their businesses.”

That sentiment was echoed by Bill Calgaro, who owns Calgaro Pizza locations in Cole Camp and Warsaw.

“There is always a good turnout and you usually end up getting a few people who come back to your business that haven’t tried it before,” Calgaro said.

Tickets for Taste of Cole Camp are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, and are available at most participating vendors, as well as Citizens Farmers Bank in Cole Camp.
