State Fair Community College was named a finalist for the 2013 Community College Futures Assembly Bellwether Award, which recognizes “outstanding and innovative programs and practices that are leading community colleges into the future.”

SFCC was one of 10 finalists chosen in the Planning, Governance and Finance category from nearly 250 schools nominated. The category addresses programs or activities that have been designed and successfully implemented to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the community college.

Piedmont Technical College, of Greenwood, S.C., received the top award.

“We are extremely proud to have been nominated for this national award because it recognizes that the college is committed to improving teaching and learning for its students,” SFCC President Marsha Drennon said in a news release. “Our nomination was based on the development of data gathering and reporting tools that faculty and staff can use to efficiently analyze enrollment, student completion rates and academic grades for improvement purposes. This work is very important for student success, and I am gratified by all the faculty and staff who value and use these tools to make improvements that produce positive results.”

The CCFA convenes annually as an independent national policy forum to work as a “think tank” to identify critical issues facing the future of community colleges.
