March 27, 2014

A tornado watch has been issued for western Missouri, including Pettis County until 8 p.m. Large hail and damaging winds are possible. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued in addition to the tornado watch for Pettis County. There is the possibility of hail up to 1.75” and winds up to 50 mph with the storm.

The National Weather Service reported a spotter had indicated golf ball sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts near Lynne. The NWS is telling residents to expect damage to roofs, siding, windows, vehicles and trees.

All storm shelters in Pettis County are now open and available for use.
