The Sedalia Sting girls 12-and-under soccer team moved into first place in the league standings with a win and a tie this weekend in Kansas City, Kan.

The Sting opened the weekend with a 2-0 win over Puma FC-Brazil. Kayla Leach scored both goals in the first half and the Sting had several other chances to add to the lead.

Keeper McKenna Perusich earned the shutout.

In the second game, the Sting tied Puma FC-Lazio 1-1. Leach scored in the eighth minute, taking a pass from Reagan Braverman and dribbling through the Lazio defense. The Sting kept the pressure on but could not add to the lead and Lazio equalized in the final minute.

The Sting are 4-1-1 in league play, three points clear of Puma FC-Brazil. They will play in the Coca Cola/Dr. Pepper Classic April 26-27 in Springfield.
