WARRENSBURG — Rebecca “Becky” Cantrell, Nursing Assistant II for the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, was selected as the February 2017 Missouri Veterans Commission Employee of the Month. She was honored at a ceremony on Feb. 16 at the home with family, staff, veterans and nursing staff from the other six Veterans Homes present.
Cantrell was nominated by her peers and selected for always going above and beyond for the veterans. She works the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift on the Highland Park neighborhood. During the Christmas holiday, she and another certified nurse’s aide purchased Christmas gifts for all 50 veterans on her neighborhood.
“This kind gesture meant so much to each and every one of the veterans,” Debbie Woirhaye, director of nursing services at the home, said. “She comes in early quite often when needed to cover an opening with little to no notice. She never complains about being pulled to other units and to train new CNA’s, even if it’s several shifts in a row. Staff say her kind heart, contagious laugh and sweet smile makes her a joy to work with.”
Cantrell lives in Warrensburg and is the mother of four children and has nine grandchildren. During her spare time, she enjoys fishing and spending time with her family.
“I was very surprised by this award and it means a lot to me. I am so honored to be able to take care of these guys. They are my family,” said Cantrell.
The Missouri Veterans Commission established the Employee of the Month Program to recognize employees within the Missouri Veterans Commission for outstanding service. Deputy Director Bryan Hunt presented her with a plaque and a joint resolution from the Missouri Senate and House of Representatives.
