Two candidates are vying for the City of Smithton Alderman West Ward seat, newcomers John Hollomon and Jeremy Roberts. Terms are for two years. Each candidate was asked to fill out a questionnaire about their candidacy; Roberts did not submit any responses. Answers may have been edited for length.
Why are you running for office?
John Hollomon: “I feel that I have some good ideas that the community will like.”
What are your qualifications?
Hollomon: “I have lived in Smithton off and on since I was born. I consider myself a fair and honest person. I work among the community every day.”
What do you think are some top issues facing the City of Smithton that need to be addressed soon?
Hollomon: “I feel that safety and security can be improved. Smithton is by no means an unsafe place to live but I feel some changes can be taken to improve our community.”
What goals do you have for office if you are elected?
Hollomon: “Well, being a longtime resident of Smithton, I know how important it is to have open communication with the city council. My goal is to be open to any and all suggestions and concerns and do my best to communicate them when needed.”
Why should people vote for you?
Hollomon: “I feel that I would be a good addition to the board. And I feel that I can bring some positive energy along with me. And I really do love this little town.”
