Warrensburg teen dies in accident

A Warrensburg teenager died in a two-vehicle accident at 1:39 p.m. March 13 in Johnson County.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Mary E. Pierce, 32, of Odessa, was driving north on state Route 131 as Loan Tran, 20, of Warrensburg, was driving east on U.S. Highway 50.
Pierce failed to yield and pulled into the path of Tran’s vehicle. Tran’s vehicle struck the left rear of Pierce’s vehicle and both vehicles traveled into the median.
Pierce’s vehicle also struck a road sign and a utility pole in the median.
A passenger in Loan Tran’s vehicle, Shirley Tran, 14, of Warrensburg, was pronounced dead at the scene by Johnson County Coroner C.L. Holdren.
Loan Tran was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence with serious injuries.
Pierce and a passenger in her vehicle, Molly A. Towne, 20, of Warrensburg, were both taken to Centerpoint with serious injuries. Another passenger in Pierce’s vehicle, Henry T. Pierce, an infant, was also taken to Centerpoint with minor injuries.
Reports indicate all occupants involved were wearing a seat belt or safety device at the time of the accident.
Versailles woman hurt in crash
A Versailles woman sustained moderate injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 3:21 p.m. Friday in Morgan County.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Alfred D. Bartmess, 58, of Sturgeon, and Sandra R. Smith, 44, were both driving east on state Route 52, a half mile east of Barnett. As Bartmess slowed to make a left turn, Smith’s vehicle struck the rear of Bartmess’ vehicle.
Smith was taken by Mid-Mo Ambulance District to Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach for her injuries.
Reports indicate Bartmess was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, but Smith was not.
Man arrested for DWI in Morgan
A Gravois Mills man was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated after a two-vehicle accident at 10:03 p.m. Sunday in Morgan County.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Cody T. Kelley, 23, was driving south on state Route 135, one mile north of state Route 5, when his vehicle skidded into the left lane, causing the rear of his vehicle to strike the driver’s side of a northbound vehicle driven by Riley T. Vandewater, 21, of Lawrence, Kansas.
Kelley was taken by Lake West to Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach with moderate injuries.
Reports indicate both Kelley and Vandewater were wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Kelley was also arrested on charges of careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident and no valid operator’s license. Reports indicate he was released on summons.
