Cleveland teen injured in Saline crash

A Cleveland teenager was injured in a minor accident at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday in Saline County.

Joshua D. Mathews, 36, of Cleveland, was driving east on Interstate 70 when he overtook and struck an eastbound vehicle driven by Constantin D. Birsan, 34, of Woodstock, Ga., according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. After impact, Mathews’ vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck the median post and came to rest in the median. Birsan’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and came to rest in the ditch.

A passenger in Joshua Mathews’ vehicle, Anthony Mathews, 15, of Cleveland, was taken to University Hospital in Columbia by Saline County Ambulance District with moderate injuries.

Reports indicate both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, but Anthony Mathews was not.
