A 16-year-old Otterville student was killed in a head-on collision Sunday night just outside of Tipton in Moniteau County.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, at 9:35 p.m. Lilyann M. Nanneman, 16, was driving west on U.S. Highway 50, one mile west of County Road Snorgrass, when her vehicle crossed the center line and struck an eastbound vehicle driven by Donald W. Becker, 47, of Tipton.
Nanneman was pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m. at the scene by Moniteau County Coroner Dr. Loyd Fulks.
Becker and a passenger in his vehicle, Lisa L. Becker, 48, of Tipton, were both taken by ambulance to Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City with moderate injuries.
The report indicates all three parties were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
“Lily was a very beautiful and enthusiastic young lady with a contagious smile,” Otterville R-VI School District Superintendent Kim Oelrichs said. “She was involved in many things and was always energetic and a lot of fun.
“She had strong goals and a strong faith and she was always a joy to work with and a joy to be with,” Oelrichs added. “Lily was drawn to others and others were drawn to her as well.”
Otterville’s final day of classes for the 2016 school year was Friday. Despite being dismissed for the summer, the school district is providing support and counseling for any students who needed help.
“Other schools and area communities are offering their help and support and we are extremely grateful to them,” Oelrichs said. “Lily fit into the Otterville family and both her school and community family hurt right now but we will pull together and gather strength from that.”
A celebration of life service for Nanneman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Abundant Harvest Worship Center, 2825 S. Ingram Ave. in Sedalia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel in Sedalia.
