TIPTON — A California, Missouri, man was arrested Wednesday for the May 28 shooting death of a Calvary High School student in Tipton.
Travis Lee Clark, 22, was arrested on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree involuntary manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon for shooting 18-year-old Robert Ashpaugh in the 400 block of Railroad Road in Tipton. Clark was residing at the residence, according to the probable cause statement from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which investigated the case. The charges were filed by the Moniteau County Prosecutor’s office.
The statement said investigators recovered a Savage .243 caliber rifle at the scene along with other forensic evidence. After multiple interviews with Clark, he confessed to pointing the rifle at Ashpaugh in an attempt to scare him, according to the statement. He then cocked, pointed and pulled the trigger of the rifle, firing the fatal shot.
Witness testimony confirmed Clark’s confession. Clark is being held at the Moniteau County Jail without bail.
