The Pettis County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a shooting incident that occurred Friday night in Smithton.
According to a news release, on Friday, Pettis County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Bothwell Regional Health Center Emergency Room in reference to a juvenile being shot in the hand. During the investigation, deputies were given information that the shooting took place at Green’s Crossing on Carpenter Road in Smithton.
The juvenile was transported to University Hospital in Columbia.
“The child was treated and released, so it was not life-threatening injuries, but it was a gunshot wound to the hand,” Sheriff Kevin Bond told the Democrat Monday afternoon.
Bond said his office was contacted about the incident late Friday night, but the incident took place between 6:30 and 7 p.m. Friday.
After talking with the victim at Bothwell, deputies responded to the incident area and spoke with witnesses. The owner of the gun was described as a heavy set white male with a beard driving a flatbed truck described as either a Dodge diesel or a Chevrolet Silverado either gray or black in color.
“The case is still under investigation,” Bond said. “Our detectives were working on it (Monday) in conjunction the Children’s Division, Department of Social Services. To do a co-investigation, that’s routine.”
