Pettis County to see rainy July Fourth weekend

The Fourth of July weekend may be a bit wet this year in Pettis County.

According to Sedalia-Pettis County Emergency Management Agency Director Dave Clippert, Pettis County has been placed into a Flash Flood Watch effective Friday evening until early Monday morning.

“As you can see on the graphic we can expect to see anywhere from four to six inches of rain by Monday morning,” Clippert said via email. “What we can expect to see is several rounds of heavy rain rather than a nice steady rain.”

A Flash Flood watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, which can occur anywhere that experiences heavy rains.

“They are very dangerous and claim the lives of many people each year,” Clippert said. “Please be aware of your surroundings while driving. If camping make sure you know if you are in a flood prone area. Flash floods come with very little to no warning. Do not drive through high waters! Turn around, don’t drown!”
