The Sedalia Parks and Recreation Department has announced a three-day open house for Jennie Jaynes Stadium to take place this weekend — days before the stadium will be demolished.
Parks Director Mark Hewett told the Democrat on Wednesday that Perkins Dozing, of Jamesport, wants to start on the demolition project as soon as possible, with work starting possibly as early as Wednesday, July 15.
“We wanted to give out-of-town people enough warning, but the company wants to get started right away,” Hewett said. “So we’ll be having the open house this weekend.”
Hewett said the department will host “informal walk-throughs” of the stadium for nostalgic citizens from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. There will be no guided tours; visitors will simply walk through the 62-year-old stadium at their own leisure.
“Monday will give people who will be out of town this weekend the chance to walk through,” Hewett said. “It gives three days for people on their own to go through the stadium.”
