A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 11 p.m. Wednesday for Pettis County.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of South Central into Northeast Kansas, Northwest Missouri and North Central Oklahoma effective from 4:45 to 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Primary threats include possible scattered damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, possible isolated large hail events to up 1.5 inches in diameter, and a possible tornado.
According to information from NWS, scattered thunderstorm development is expected in the next couple of hours from Northern Oklahoma into Central/Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri. Damaging winds will be the main threat, though stronger storms could produce isolated large hail.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
