Sedalia City Council to host public hearings

Council will host two public hearings today as well as meet for a special meeting.

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a public hearing for proposed tax rates for 2016. The proposed 2016 tax rate is 1.9019 per $100 assessed valuation. Citizens with any comments will be given time to voice their opinion. After the pubic hearing concludes, council will then convene its special meeting to vote on adopting the city property tax rates for 2016.

At 7 p.m., there will be another public hearing, this time for an annexation petition. Public comments will be allowed regarding the annexation of property owned by E.W. Thompson Inc. near Mitchell Road behind US Bank. The public hearing is the first of two steps to accomplish the annexation. Council will vote on the annexation of the property at the Sept. 19 meeting.

The tax rate hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the mayor’s conference room with the special meeting immediately following. The annexation hearing will begin at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Municipal Building, 200 S. Osage Ave. For more information, call 827-3000.
