Beating the heat at the pool

With Sedalia under a heat advisory, many residents decided to stay cool by attending the Adult Swim offered at the Centennial Park Pool Tuesday morning. The national weather service predicted that heat index values would reach 103 degrees. Pool Manager Rachel Howieson said she had seen an increase in people visiting the pool during the hot weather; 52 adults visited the pool Tuesday. “Yes, definitely,” she said. “Especially since it was so cold at the beginning of summer, everyone’s itching to get in now.”

The Adult Swim at Centennial Pool is hosted from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. seven days a week and costs $1.50. Pool Manager Rachel Howieson added the pool will also host Swim Under the Stars from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday for $3.

Taking advantage of the warm weather Tuesday, Trenton Terry, of Springfield, decided to swim laps at Centennial Park Pool Tuesday with his friend Elena Sharp, of Sedalia. Terry said he was visiting Sedalia and enjoys swimming for fitness purposes. Today will continue to be hot with heat index values predicted, by the National Weather Service, to reach 101 degrees.
