A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Sunday and another Heat Advisory has been issued for 1 to 9 p.m. Monday in Pettis County.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, late Sunday afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 80s, falling to the lower 80s by 9 p.m. Heat indices should drop to around 90 degrees. On Monday, local residents can expect afternoon temperatures to reach the lower to mid-90s, with heat index values as high as 105 degrees.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity can create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

Residents are encouraged to check on relatives, neighbors and pets. Those who work or spend time outside should:

• Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

• Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

• Wear light-weight and loose-fitting clothing when possible.

• Drink plenty of water.
