Updated: Otterville boy shot, killed Saturday

Cooper County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the shooting death of a 12-year-old boy in northeast of the Otterville.

The Cooper County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a juvenile gunshot victim at approximately 8:40 p.m. Saturday. Deputies responded to a rural location to find a 12-year-old male dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

An autopsy was conducted Monday on the boy, according to the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office. The autopsy, conducted at the Boone County Medical Examiner’s Office, confirmed the cause of death to be a single gunshot wound to the head.

The Cooper County Sheriff’s Office investigators and investigators from the Missouri State Highway Patrol continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and further details will be released as appropriate, pending further autopsy results.
