A Fire Weather Watch has been extended for Pettis County until 6 p.m. Wednesday, initially set to expire at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, critical fire weather conditions will continue through Wednesday.
Sustained southwesterly winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will be possible Wednesday across eastern Kansas and western Missouri. Relative humidity is expected to drop as low as 20 percent Tuesday afternoon. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly, so outdoor burning is not advised.
Other affected counties include Bates, Buchanan, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Henry, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Platte and Ray.
