A man was killed in a single-vehicle accident involving a tree around 5:43 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of South Grand Avenue.
According to a Sedalia Police Department news release, Josiah L. Wilson, 59. of Sedalia, was driving south on Grand Avenue near West 15th Street when his vehicle crossed the road, striking a tree. Wilson sustained serious injuries and was taken by the Pettis County Ambulance District to Bothwell Regional Health Center. SPD Sgt. Josh Howell told the Democrat on scene the victim had sustained head injuries.
Wilson, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, died at 6:18 p.m., according to the release.
A witness, who reported the accident to the SPD, told officers he didn’t see an outside influence causing the vehicle to crash, Howell said.
“(The witness said) it didn’t look like (the victim) was swerving to miss something,” Howell said. “He slowly changed lanes, then struck the tree.”
An autopsy has been scheduled regarding the cause of death. According to the release, no criminal activity is expected.
