The circus comes to town

Members of The Amazing Anastasini Circus begin setting up their performance tent late Friday morning in preparation for the Missouri State Fair that begins Thursday Aug. 13. The circus, an eight generation family act and is owned by Giovanni Anastasini, has been entertaining fair goers for several years.

By noon the circus tent located near the Mathewson Exhibition Center, was quickly taking shape. Performances for the Anastasini Circus will take place during the MSF at 1 and 5 p.m. Aug. 13-23.

Anastasini Circus owner, Giovanni Anastasini, left, and his friend and high-wire show participant, Jim Decker, raise poles lifting the tent into place at noon Friday. “We’re taking our time,” Anastasini said. “We washing it (the tent) too, so we’re hoping to have it up by tonight.” The Amazing Anastasini Circus has been performing since 1877.
