WARRENSBURG —A Warrensburg man has been arrested after he ditched a stolen vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Warrensburg Police Department news release, at 2:33 p.m., WPD responded to a vehicle which had traveled off the road and was in a ditch in the area of state Route DD and Alkire Parkway. The driver walked away from the vehicle before officers arrived.

It was determined the vehicle was stolen and had ammunition inside. A perimeter was set up in the area where the person was seen walking away and local schools were contacted.

Steven C. Key, 20, was later apprehended in the wooded area behind Brookside neighborhood in relation to this incident.

Key has been charged with first degree tampering with a motor vehicle and theft/stealing of any firearm. He is in the Johnson County Jail on a $4,500 bond, cash or surety.
