Kids take on the Fair

Colton Grass, of Bonne Terre, leans in to whisper something as his Charolais licks her nose shortly before entering the arena at the Coliseum on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.

Judge Corey Hudson, left, listens as Joey Nicholas Todd explains that he is 4 years old shorty after showing his pig in the Swine Pavilion. When Hudson asked Todd how often he feeds his pig, Todd explained that he fed him every weekend.

Jacob Toombs, 13, of Bolivar, walks his Hereford, Olivia, at the MFA Arena before competing in the 4-H FFA Hereford Show Saturday, Aug. 15. Toombs said he had been showing Herefords for five years.

Clint Cumpton, of Adrian, works with his Simmental Heifer, Dixie, in the Coliseum at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. Cumpton was competing at the Open Simmental Show. Cumpton said he worked with his cattle daily and his family had shown for several years.

Thomas Wood takes a break in the cool shade of a tire wheel while drinking a bottle of water. Wood is from Franklin and said it was his first day at the fair and he was looking looking forward to riding several rides, especially the Ferris Wheel later in the evening.
