The Marshall Ministerial Alliance, the Mental Health Association of Saline County, the Saline Local Emergency Planning Coalition and Fitzgibbon Hospital have teamed up to offer a seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Fitzgibbon Hospital classroom suite called “Spiritual Care: When Disaster Strikes.”
Clergy, church leaders, first responders, community members and mental health professionals will have an opportunity to hear from Peter Ford, author of the book, “A Disaster Spiritual Care Primer.” Ford has served for 37 years as Director of Chaplains at Winchester Medical Center, a Level II Trauma Center in Virginia. He is a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress/National Center for Crisis Management (AAETS/NCCM). He is a board-certified Chaplain. He was part of a work group to establish an organization called Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) in the Northern Shenandoah Valley area.
Resources and information will be available from local and regional disaster response agencies as well, including The Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, the Saline County LEPC and more.
