TigerLand Motors, nestled between the Kentucky Fried Chicken and T-Mobile Store on South Limit Avenue, is a recently-opened used car dealership owned and managed by three friends — owners Travis Dickman, Anthony Wilkinson and General Manager Ed Andrews. TigerLand opened in February, but getting there was the year-long trial of turning a Chinese restaurant into a used car lot.

“We got the location at the end of August last year,” Wilkinson said. “Obviously it was a Chinese restaurant, so Travis and I kind of came in — the buffet tables are right here, that was all seating, we had to fill in walls — but we had a vision of what we could do with this shell of a building.”

Since opening, the three have distinguished TigerLand — its namesake a reference to Smith-Cotton and Mizzou — as the local, community-oriented used car dealership. Dickman was born and raised in Sedalia and ran D&D Beverage before the TigerLand venture. He said local ties and customer service sets TigerLand apart.

“I like having a company in Sedalia, I like being involved in the community,” Dickman said. “I think these guys have the same vision.”

Andrews, who has 10 years experience in sales, finance and sales management, also said he takes pride in Sedalia.

“I like how (Sedalia is) a tight community,” Andrews said. “I grew up here. I know just about everybody in town it feels like.”

According to Dickman, TigerLand sells an average of 25 cars a month, nearly the capacity of their 30-car lot. Despite nearly turning over their inventory each month, Wilkinson said they are selective in their product.

“Over 50 percent of our vehicles are one-owner, no accidents, just great vehicles when we get them,” Wilkinson said. “Really the upper-echelon of pre-owned vehicles.”

Dickman said the three match quality cars with fine customer service.

“I think any customer that comes in will be pleasantly surprised,” Dickman said.
