No further details have been released regarding Saturday’s fatal fire in Sedalia.

According to a Sedalia Police Department report, SPD officers and the Sedalia Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 600 block of East 10th Street, with officers observing fire consuming the entire south side of the residence. The fire was eventually extinguished by SFD.

A subject, identified as Daniel T. Smith, 53, was found inside the residence and transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center, where he later died. Pettis County Coroner Skip Smith said an autopsy was conducted Monday and he is waiting on the toxicology results.

“We’re not releasing any other information; it is under investigation at this time by the Sedalia Police Department, Sedalia Fire Department and the state Fire Marshal’s office,” said SFD Deputy Chief Greg Harrell.

Mike O’Connell, Communications Director for the Missouri Department of Public Safety, said the Division of Fire Safety, which includes the Fire Marshal’s office, is assisting SFD and SPD.
