The Democrat has hired Alex Agueros as its Sports Editor, effective January 11.
Agueros is familiar with the Sedalia community, as he spent two months as the Democrat’s social media intern in fall 2015. He is the only person in the Democrat’s sports department and will cover games and sports features in Sedalia, Pettis County and surrounding areas.
“I’m excited to be back in Sedalia,” Agueros said. “And especially to be back in a familiar newsroom. I look forward to continuing the Democrat’s tradition of faithful and outstanding sports coverage.”
He is studying Digital Media Production with an emphasis in news at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg and will receive his degree in December. Agueros has served as the sports editor for Central Missouri’s student newspaper, the Muleskinner. He was born and raised in Warrensburg.
“I interviewed several candidates for the Sports Editor position and I believe that Alex has the energy and creativity to make our sports coverage the best that it can possibly be across all platforms. He has a lot of new ideas for improving our Sports coverage. We welcome him to the Democrat,” said Editor Tim Epperson.
After playing baseball through high school, he applied his interest in sports to writing, reporting and commentating on local sports events.
Agueros said his favorite sports teams are the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. His favorite athletes include Priest Holmes, Joe Randa and Zack Grienke.
