Warrensburg police warn of phone scam

The Warrensburg Police Department is warning residents of a security company scam.

According to a WPD release, on Wednesday the department was made aware of a security company that was soliciting inside the city and stating they were endorsed by WPD. The name of the security company is unknown, but WPD does not endorse any security companies.

The Department also has fielded several phone calls of someone “ghosting” the WPD phone number of 660-747-9133. Citizens have reported a male with a foreign accent saying “is there something that we need to talk about” and attempting to portray that he is with the Police Department.

There have also been reports in the City of Warrensburg of phone calls from a male with a foreign accent saying he is with the Chesterfield Police Department or the IRS. The male then attempts to convince the person that they need to pay their education taxes. WPD states these calls are not legitimate.

For more information, contact WPD at 660-747-9134.
