Accident sends three to hospital

Three people were injured in a two vehicle accident at 10:35 p.m. Friday in Saline County. A vehicle driven by Taylor R. Beckenbach, 20, of Blue Springs was stopped while traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 at the 77.2 mile marker On the Roadway partially blocking the right lane. The second vehicle, driven by Kim A. Ross, 59, of Madison, Illinois, attempted to avoid the vehicle stopped in traffic, when the vehicle driven by Ross struck the vehicle driven by Beckenbach, causing both vehicles to begin sliding on the roadway according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report..

The vehicle driven by Beckenbach ran off right side of the roadway, struck a cement barrier, returned to the roadway, and stopped in the right lane of traffic.

The vehicle driven by Ross struck the ground, overturned, and came to a stop in the left lane of traffic.

Beckenbach, was transported by air ambulance to Truman Medical Center with minor injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, Eric S. Preston, 44, of Harrisonville was transported by air ambulance to University Hospital, Columbia with serious injuries. A second passenger in the vehicle, Melissa E. Short, 20, of Blue Springs, was transported by air ambulance to Truman Medical Center. She also suffered serious injuries.

Ross refused treatment at the scene.

Reports indicate Beckenbach, Short and Ross were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident but Preston was not.

Information is taken from preliminary Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved.
