Saturday grass fire burns five acres


Heat from a grass fire creates a visual distortion around a Sedalia Fire Department firefighter who works to stop a grass fire at South Hancock Avenue and Broadway Boulevard along the Katy Trail Saturday afternoon. The Sedalia Police Department responded to the call at 3 p.m. The fire, of unknown cause, began near the trail and spread quickly due to wind.

The fire burnt approximately 4 to 5 acres before being extinguished. “We had a small fire that began by the trail,” SFD Battalion Chief Matthew Irwin said. “Then with the wind, it got into the tall grass and moved south and east.”
