Scott Joplin performer Barnhart entertains students this week


Ragtime artist-in-residence visits local schools

Jeff Barnhart, of Mystic, Connecticut, plays ragtime music for 258 students at Washington Elementary School Wednesday afternoon. Barnhart is the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Foundation artist-in-residence this week. “Put on your time travel caps, we’re going back to 1899,” he told the children before playing Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag.”
