Sedalia Police Department detectives are seeking information about a shooting Monday night that injured one male victim.

According to a SPD news release, at 9:38 p.m. officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 600 block of South Washington Avenue, just one block from St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Sedalia. Upon arrival, contact was made with the victim, who appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Elmer Jewel Miley Jr., was transported by the Pettis County Ambulance District to University Hospital in Columbia.

According to online court records from previous cases, Miley is listed as age 32 and lives in the 300 block of East Cooper Street.

Detective Kelley Casto told the Democrat the investigation into the incident is ongoing and detectives will be interviewing people in the area Tuesday.

“We’re going to speak with potential witnesses,” Casto said Tuesday morning. “We haven’t had a chance to speak to the victim, but we understand he is in stable condition at the hospital.”

Casto was unable to provide any other information, as it is an active investigation and they don’t have a clear picture yet of what went on Monday night.

“We haven’t talked to the victim so we don’t know what all was going on and the suspect had fled the scene,” he said. “Hopefully when talking to witnesses someone will come forward with some indication of what motive was behind this.”

Anyone with any information regarding this shooting incident is encouraged to call SPD detectives at 660-826-8100.
