The Democrat is receiving reports that a lightning strike from today’s storms has hit a transformer in Sedalia, causing numerous power outages, including street light outages at intersections across the city, mostly on the west side.

Sedalia Police Department officers are reporting street lights are out at Winchester Drive and Broadway Boulevard, Curry Drive and Broadway Boulevard, Thompson Boulevard, Main Street, and Third Street and Limit Avenue, among others.

Citizens are advised to avoid portions of Main Street, as power lines in the area are dangerous.

Drivers are advised to treat intersections as four-way stops, as there are too many outages for officers to direct traffic at every intersection. If a law enforcement officer is on scene, drivers should follow commands given. If possible, avoid these areas until normal traffic conditions resume.

According to police scanner traffic at 5:45 p.m., KCP&L has been called and is expected to respond to the area of Curry Drive and Broadway Boulevard in about 30 minutes.
