Katy Trail Health celebrates National Health Center Week

Katy Trail Community Health will celebrate National Health Center week with 1,200 community health centers across America from Aug. 7-13. The goal of National Health Center Week is to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s Health Centers over the course of more than five decades.

Why celebrate community health centers? Community Health Centers have:

• More night and weekend hours.

• More preventive services including screenings, diagnosis and management of chronic illness.

• Higher rates of accepting new patients.

• Enabling services including transportation, case management, health education and community programs.

Health centers set themselves apart from other providers by delivering a wider range of services to improve the overall health of their patients and communities. Katy Trail Community Health Sedalia offers medical, dental and behavioral health services. In 2015, 20 percent of people living in the Sedalia zip code received services at Katy Trail’s Sedalia site.

Katy Trail Community Health Sedalia will celebrate with a Summer Health Festival from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday at the clinic, located at 821 Westwood Drive in Sedalia.

Activities scheduled include free health screenings, children’s games and prizes, a bounce house and refreshments. A Sedalia Fire Department truck and ambulance will be available from 1 to 2 p.m. Visitors can also get their photo taken with Kansas City Royals mascot Slugger from 2 to 3 p.m.

The event is free to the public even if visitors are not a Katy Trail patient.
