This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.
Sedalia Police Department
12:20 a.m.: Jose Luis Herrera Jr., 18, of the 500 block of West Sixth Street, was arrested in the 2500 block of West 16th Street on charges of driving while intoxicated, purchase/possession of alcohol by a minor, first degree property damage, third degree assault, resisting arrest and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. Officers responded to a possible accident near the Missouri State Fairgrounds. While en route, officers were informed the vehicle left the scene. The vehicle and driver were located a short time later. While speaking with the driver, it was determined he was operating the vehicle in an intoxicated condition.
4 a.m.: Chandra J. Ford, 17, of Eldon, was arrested in the 200 block of East Howard Avenue on charges of second degree endangering the welfare of a child, abandonment of a child and purchase/possession of alcohol by a minor. Officers responded to Housel Park in reference to a subject attempting to sell her children for drug money. The officer met with the caller, who said she was with a female subject in the park who was trying to get rid of her two newborn children. After the suspect asked several people, the caller decided to take the children so they didn’t end up somewhere unsafe. As soon as the suspect left the area without her children, the caller went to a residence across the street and called police.
12:42 a.m.: Mira Lucille Freeman, 17, of the 2200 block of East Ninth Street, was issued a municipal court summons in the 2700 block of South Grand Avenue for tampering with a motor vehicle. A victim reported kids had been driving by his residence and egging his vehicle and that they had done it twice already. At 1:34 a.m., the victim called again reporting his vehicle was egged again and he was following the suspect vehicle. The suspects and the victim arrived at the police station. Three juvenile female subjects and the driver, Freeman, admitted to throwing eggs. The juveniles were released to their parents and their involvement in the incident was forwarded to the Pettis County Juvenile Office.
9:41 p.m.: A structure fire was reported in the 2200 block of East Broadway Boulevard. No one was in the residence. The fire was extinguished by the Sedalia Fire Department a short time later. The cause is unknown.
9:21 a.m.: A victim reported $350, a package of cinnamon rolls and a package of chicken wings were missing from his residence in the 500 block of East Fifth Street. A witness reportedly watched a male subject break into the residence.
Missouri State Highway Patrol
9:01 p.m.: Austin C. Owens, 29, of Slater, was arrested in Saline County on charges of driving while intoxicated.
