Sept. 10-11 Police Reports


This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Sept. 1

1:41 p.m.: Austin M. Dotson, 20, of the 400 block of East Third Street, was arrested at his residence on charges of stealing from a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and second degree endangering the welfare of a child. A victim reported a pistol and wallet were stolen from his vehicle parked near the intersection of East Fourth Street and South Lafayette Avenue. Officers obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence, which was served Sept. 1. Officers located the victim’s wallet, ID card and Social Security card in the residence. They also located drug paraphernalia and observed the residence was not in a livable condition although a child was inside the home.

Sept. 2

Noon: Charles E. Ford, 55, no address given, was arrested in the 200 block of West Second Street on charges of receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a concealable weapon. Further investigation into the theft case involving Austin M. Dotson led to the gun being sold to Ford. Ford came to the SPD where he was questioned about his involvement. He admitted to purchasing the gun from Dotson.

Sept. 7

2:21 p.m.: Russell Marcus Bain, 54, of the 1600 block of South Osage Avenue, was arrested at his residence on a charge of stealing. Officers responded to a report of theft from a business near the intersection of West 16th Street and South Ohio Avenue. A weed-eater and a leaf-blower, combined value of $1,200, were reported stolen. A suspect was identified and interviewed by detectives. The suspect admitted to possessing the items. The suspect was arrested and the items were recovered.

7:11 p.m.: Joshua Ray Smith, 32, of the 400 block of North Hurley Avenue, was arrested near the intersection of South Brown Avenue and East Seventh Street on a charge of driving with a revoked license.

11:17 p.m.: Heather M. Ruth, 26, of Warsaw, was arrested near the intersection of East Ninth Street and South Montgomery Avenue on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

Sept. 8

4:02 a.m.: Crystal Gail Vansel, 39, of Smithton, was arrested near the intersection of South Emmet Avenue and East Seventh Street on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. A traffic stop was conducted for defective rear license plate lights. An investigation revealed the driver was in possession of methamphetamine and related paraphernalia.

2:38 p.m.: Charles E. Dodson, 50, of the 1300 block of South Harrison Avenue, was arrested at his residence on a charge of second degree domestic assault. An officer responded to Smith-Cotton High School to talk with a male victim who reported he was slapped in the head earlier in the day. Contact was made with the suspect, who admitted to the incident.

Sept. 6

3:23 p.m.: A hit-and-run vehicle accident was reported in the 600 block of South Warren Avenue involving a parked vehicle.

Sept. 7

1:19 p.m.: A building was reported spray-painted in the 200 block of South Ohio Avenue.

5:06 p.m.: A tan 24-inch to 26-inch adult touring specialty bike was reported stolen from the front porch of a residence in the 900 block of South Madison Avenue.

6:42 p.m.: A hit-and-run vehicle accident was reported in the 2600 block of West Broadway Boulevard. A vehicle reportedly struck a parking barrier at a residence and left the scene.

Sept. 8

2:36 p.m.: A scooter, valued at $650, was reported stolen in the 1600 block of West 11th Street.

4:25 p.m.: Officers responded to a report of an assault in the 200 block of South Missouri Avenue. A female victim said a known suspect pushed her down multiple times and punched her in the face. The suspect left prior to officer arrival. A charge of assault will be applied for.

Sept. 8

12:55 p.m.: Kevin J. Tringali, 27, of Springfield, Massachusetts, was arrested in Saline County on a charge of three counts of possession of a controlled substance (LSD, DMT and Salvia).

12:55 p.m.: Kevin Y. Chiang, 27, of Malden, Massachusetts, was arrested in Saline County on charges of possession of a controlled substance (LSD), possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
