SHS family work night benefits “Commons” good

Rita Mergen works alongside her daughter, Annalise, to apply a fresh coat of paint to the Sacred Heart School entryway and commons area. The SHS Parent Work Nights are an annual summer tradition at Sacred Heart School.

Jennifer Brownfield keeps the conversation flowing just as easily as her painting in the SHS entryway. Brownfield serves as a member of the Sacred Heart School Board and is co-coordinator of the Parent Work Nights. The family work nights take place 6 p.m. each Wednesday, and will continue throughout the summer.

Parents and students at Sacred Heart School rolled up their sleeves and rolled out the paint tape during a recent Sacred Heart School Parent Work Night. More than 30 individuals were at the work night, which focused on prepping and painting the school commons. SHS students also volunteered their time to entertain the younger kids, which allowed their parents the chance to help on the paint projects.

The family work nights take place 6 p.m. each Wednesday, and will continue throughout the summer. Under the direction of the school’s maintenance staff, tasks range from painting to rearranging classroom desks and chairs. The volunteer work force helps expedite some of the chores that are imperative to complete over the summer break, and it also builds camaraderie among Sacred Heart families.
