Richard Villigram brings with him a new attitude to his first year as coach at Knob Noster.

“We’re talking more about a growing mindset,” Villigram said. “We’re trying to communicate to the kids about growing that mindset to expand ourselves not only as a football player but as an individual within the community.”

Last season was rough for the Panthers, who won their first game over Versailles before losing the next nine. Villigram said that in Knob Noster, the players are not focused on the past.

“I think for the most part they’ve moved on,” he said. “That’s kind of what you have to do. You don’t want to remind the guys we were 1-9 because that goes back to a fixed mindset of what we did in the past.”

For the most part, the Panthers will run a familiar offense but Villigram is implementing some motion. Villigram is pulling from a number of different systems to put together an offense.

“It can help (to have multiple playbooks to look at) and it can be bad,” When you do so much, you never get really good at one thing. We really have slowed it down and condensed the playbook. We’re adjusting as we go. There are some good things where you can pick and choose from some offenses.”

On defense, Knob Noster will be fast and physical.

“It just comes down to an attitude and effort,” Villigram said.
