Outlook:

The Windsor Greyhounds return a veteran team in 2014. Of the players on this fall’s roster, 20 started at one point last year.

“We always try to adapt it to what we have coming back,” said coach Dave Wanninger. “We’re doing that again. You can do a little bit more things. We’re trying to take advantage of what we have.”

Much of that experience is on the offensive line, which returns all but one starter.

“I’d say it’s better than all the other years I’ve played here,” said senior guard and tackle Bruce Lilley. “It’s pretty stout.”

Windsor returns 1,000-yard passer Trenton Johnson at quarterback.

“He had a real good summer,” Wanninger said. “He’s looked real good throwing the ball. We expect a lot out of him.”

Also on offense, the Greyhounds return Luke Roberts, the squad’s leading rusher in 2013.

Wanninger hopes the experience helps boost the Greyhounds’ defense. After holding Sweet Springs to six points in the season opener last year, opposing teams averaged more than 37 points per game against the Greyhounds the rest of the season.

“We have six starters returning that started almost the entire year,” Wanninger said. “We have some other kids that filled in during the year and also got starting time. We’re excited about that and know we’ve got to improve our defense and keep working. So far the kids are doing good.”
