Tuesday saw a steady stream of customers for the 10 vendors at the Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market, located on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.

A few vendors, like Chantel Neal of Bristle Ridge Farms and Rose Thomas of Share Life Farms, have been with the market since it started in 2009. Others, like Susan Wadel and her family, of Holden, are just starting out at the Sedalia market.

“We had been involved with the winter bounty bags, and we decided to keep doing it and to make it our second market,” Wadel said. “We also go to the market in Warrensburg. We needed two markets with the amount of tomatoes we have.”

Tuesday’s vendors were selling a little bit of everything — tomatoes, potatoes, onions, lettuce, kale, flowers, herbs and baked goods, just to name a few. Table of 5 Catering was also on hand to offer wood-fired pizzas for purchase for those who wanted to snack while they shopped.

Many of the veteran vendors said they have regular customers who they expect to see each week. One such customer is Suzann Jenkins, of Sedalia, who stops by every Tuesday to buy a bag of produce from Share Life Farms.

“I come every week to see these guys,” she said.

Thomas said Jenkins is one of five customers who is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) member, meaning Thomas fixes a bag for those five customers each week and has it ready for them to pick up. The items inside vary each week, so the price varies as well.

While Jenkins is a Share Life Farm regular, she also shops around to see what else is offered each week, sticking mostly to produce, but she’s open to other items too.

“I buy produce mostly, but there’s lots of great stuff,” she said. “The pizza is good, the baked goods are great, and once you’ve been here a few times it becomes a friendly place to come back to.”

The Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market is open from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and from 3 to 7 p.m. Fridays, and is located at the Missouri State Fairgrounds main gate on U.S. Highway 65, across from Kehde’s Barbeque. For more information, visit or search for Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market on Facebook.
