Matt Harris, senior engineering technician for the City of Sedalia, said the sidewalk is a MoDOT Safe Routes to School project. It began at Barrett Avenue the second week of April and will extend to Grand Avenue at 16th Street, passing Horace Mann Elementary School.
Faith Bemiss | Democrat Dolores Wolf, of Otterville, crosses over a temporary gravel walkway to buy a donut from Papa Jake’s Donut Shop next to Horace Mann Elementary on Tuesday. The new sidewalk will soon be laid in front of the business. Harris said this section of sidewalk extending to Grand Avenue will be completed by the first or second week of June. A second project will then begin from 14th Street to 16th Street along Stewart Avenue. He added that Tammy Lewis, administrative assistant for the Sedalia Street Department, is responsible for applying for the MoDOT sidewalk grants and helped him with the process.
