Election Day is Thursday, August 7. After several weeks of early voting, the total number of votes cast has come to 3,970.

This election—which is a hotly contested one in Macon County—will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Due to the Macon County Fair, District 7 polls will be moved from the Sally Wells Building to the National Guard Armory. A complete list of poll locations is as follows:

District 1: RBS High School

District 2: Willette Community Center

District 3: Galen Museum

District 4: Macon County Jr. High

District 5: Westside School

District 6: Crossroads Community Center

District 7: National Guard Armory

District 8: Welcome Center

District 9: Central Elementary

District 10: Lafayette Elementary

If anyone needs to find out which district they will vote in, they can call the Election Office at 666-2199.

Election Administrator Barry Doss said that he expects to have the first group of election results ready to announce by 7:45 that night. “Typically, if I don’t have any problems, by 7:15, we have early voting and absentee votes counted. Of course, the polls close at 7:00, so by 7:45 or a little earlier, we should have our first group of results we can release. Then, I would think that by 8:30 we’ll have them all in. But that’s just an average of past years; you never know exactly.”

Doss said folks tend to start gathering at the Election Commission on 111 East Locust St., Lafayette on election nights to wait for results to be announced. The Macon County Times will be posting election results on our website, www.maconcountytimes.com, as soon as they are announced.
