A window of local business Measure Up was shot with a pellet gun overnight Monday, and police say it is the latest of a string of vandalisms that have taken place within Lafayette city limits since June 20.

Employees discovered this minor damage Tuesday morning. It marks at least the seventh incident of vandalism reported to Lafayette Police in the last three and a half weeks, with total damage and property loss valuing nearly $4,000.

Lt. Jason Roberts with LPD says he believes a group of teens are responsible for the incidents. “These people got way too much time on their hands,” said Roberts.

Roberts said the first incident as at the local softball field, where a concession stand was broken into and some cash was taken from within. Then on July 24, vending machines were discovered broken into at City Park, with some cash taken; the machines showed “considerable damage” and were worth $1,000 and $2,000. The next day, it was discovered that some money and baseball gear was taken from another ball park.

Since that date, there have been break-ins at Performance Feeds, the Stockyard office, and the Stockyard Café. Property was damaged in each case, although nothing was reported missing.

Finally, on Tuesday morning, July 15, the small pellet damage was reported window at Measure Up.

“If anybody sees anything—anybody out at night, late, any kind of suspicious activity—call the police department, please,” said Roberts.

Roberts instructed informers to call the Lafayette Police Department at 615-666-4725 directly, especially if suspicious activity was currently underway. In normal hours, however, if an individual has information to give, he or she can call the LPD and ask for Lt. Roberts.
