It is certainly an interesting time to be a Christian. During a recent, worldwide publicized event, Ken Ham, founding president and CEO of Answers in Genesis, debated Bill Nye the Science Guy on the topic “Is Creation a viable model of origins in today’s modern, scientific era?” The debate evolved, or was created, following inflammatory comments Nye made during a televised interview about the dangers of teaching Creationism for the education system.
During the debate, Nye was asked a question from the audience about the point when matter became life. Nye responded, “I don’t know! That’s why I get up in the morning.”
In an immediate, unscripted response, Ham responded, “Bill, there is a book for that.”
There is indeed a book. The Bible is a wonderful book that is the most purchased and also the most seldom read. Many “have” a Bible, but it can also be said that many do not “read” the Bible. The Bible deals with so many matters that science tries to prove or disprove.
But the Bible addresses far more than creation. The words of Ken Ham ring true for so many other topics. Struggling in your marriage? There is a book for that. Struggling financially? There is a book for that too. Struggling with despair, doubt, addiction, purpose, health, discouragement, fear? You guessed it, there is a book for all of those issues.
Wondering how you can go to heaven? This book tells us that God demonstrated his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. It tells us that we are saved by God’s grace, through faith in Him. And it is not of our own doing. It is a free gift from Him, lest we boast in how good we are.
Are you struggling with a wayward child? Yep, the Bible addresses that. Did someone betray you? You got it, there is a book for that.
So let this article be an encouragement to you. When you are struggling, God’s Word is a tremendous resource for you, as are many of the pastors in our community. In closing, let me quote the “other 3:16.” Many are familiar with the most famous verse in the Bible found at John 3:16, but 2 Timothy 3:16 is also a fabulous verse. It says:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
