Alzheimer’s Speaker at Warsaw Senior Center
Linda Fisher, Sedalia author and speaker, will present a one-hour program on Caregiver Emotions at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Senior Center at Harbor Village in Warsaw. The presentation focuses on Alzheimer’s caregivers, but caregivers for other diseases are encouraged to attend.
“Being a caregiver for a loved one is on-the-job training for a job you never wanted,” Fisher said. “Care giving is an emotional roller coaster. Before you tackle care giving, it is essential to take care of your own emotional well being.”
Fisher became an Alzheimer’s Association volunteer when her husband developed dementia at 49 years old. She is an award-winning author and blogger who has published six books of essays from her early-onset Alzheimer’s blog at earlyonset.blogspot.com. She is an Alzheimer’s advocate and serves on the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Missouri Chapter Board of Directors.
The presentation is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required, but RSVP’s are appreciated. For more information contact Charlene at 438-3569 or Linda at 281-4371.
Celebrate Flag Day this Saturday
Commander Fisk, VFW Post 4195, reminds the public that June 14 is Flag Day. Flag Day is the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777, when the Continental Congress sanctioned a flag for the brand-new United States of America. It was officially established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. President Harry S. Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14 of each year as National Flag Day, when everyone is encouraged to proudly display our nation’s colors.
