Authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle who fled following a pursuit that began shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday on southbound U.S. Highway 65 near Sedalia city limits.
Pettis County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Sedalia Police Department officers were dispatched to an area near the city boundary on South Limit Avenue for a report of a 1996 White Chevrolet Blazer traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.
After locating a vehicle matching the description, authorities began to follow and observed the vehicle cross the centerline several times and continue to drive above the speed limit. The Missouri State Highway Patrol also joined local authorities in the pursuit.
Authorities activated lights and sirens in an attempt to make a traffic stop. The vehicle continued southbound on U.S. Highway 65 at a high rate of speed before turning west on Manila Road. The vehicle struck a fence and left the roadway.
The vehicle was found in a field where it struck several trees. Authorities were continuing to search for the suspect as of press time.
