Christina Stratton, of Sedalia, the reigning Miss Missouri High School, received second runner-up at the national High School America pageant in Orlando, Fla., July 6. She also received the prestigious “Spirit Award,” which is given to the contestant who portrays the personality and character pageant officials look for in the queen. There were 51 contestants, one from each state and the District of Columbia, and Stratton’s combined scores in three categories, fun fashion, evening gown and interview, secured her spot as second runner-up.
“We are proud of Christina for all the community service she has done as Miss Missouri High School and for her great performance on stage, but we were most proud of her for receiving the Spirit Award,” said Victoria Stratton, Christina’s mother. “The Spirit award is only given to one contestant at each pageant and we feel it is a testimony of her kind and friendly spirit.” Stratton also received this award at the Miss Missouri Teen USA pageant last November.
Stratton will be a sophomore at Sacred Heart School, where she was the President of the National Junior Honor Society, a cheerleader and a winning member of the math team.
During her reign as Miss Missouri High School Stratton logged more than 100 community service hours across the state. Some of her favorite events included being the emcee for the Miss Missouri Angels Pageant for the Special Needs population and being involved in the Bee-Literate Reading Program through the Children’s Therapy Center.
The national pageant was hosted at the Swan and Dolphin Resort. The week included a banquet, fashion show, Disney World autograph sessions, a titleholder’s pajama party, a family beach party, and personal interviews.
“I had an amazing experience this week. I am so grateful for the support I received from all my friends and family across the country,” said 15-year-old Stratton. “I believe this whole journey has helped prepare me to be more successful in all my future endeavors and helped me grow as a person.”
Stratton was sponsored by Studio A Dance Conservatory, The Royal We, Starline Brass, Mia Bella Salon and Impact Signs.
