The Sedalia Bombers advanced in the National Baseball Congress World Series with a 5-0 win over the Derby (Kan.) Twins on Thursday in Wichita, Kan.
Dan Chambliss pitched 7 1-3 innings and allowed no runs on five hits. Cody Ponder came on in relief, working out of a one-out bases-loaded jam in the eighth.
The Bombers jumped ahead with a run in the first and two in the second. Jess Cartner opened the scoring, reaching on an error, taking second on a groundout, stealing third and scoring on another error. A Hunter Leeper double drove in Jarrod Perry and Kevin Gratza in the second.
The Bombers added another run in the fourth and made it 5-0 with a run in the sixth.
Perry went 2 for 5 in the game. Trey Hair and Leeper both drove in two runs.
Following a 7-4 loss to Hallsville (Kan.) on Wednesday, the Bombers fell to the losers bracket for another matchup with Derby, a team the Bombers beat Tuesday.
