Denise Hesson, one of the main organizors of the 3rd Annual E.B. Krantz Memorial Softball Tournament, called this year’s tournament “a great success.”

“No problems whatsoever,” said Hesson of the August 2 event. “The teams enjoy it, they asked us to please call them next year. They thought it was well-organized, and a smooth. We had a great turn out with parents, too. We had tons of people there. We used all three fields, and it was just constant, all day.”

Eighteen teams participated in the tournament; five of them were from Lafayette. All the money raised from this event goes to the EB Krantz Memorial Scholarship fund. This scholarshp is awarded to a high school senior from within the county each year.

“It was started to keep our daddy’s name alive,” said Hesson. “Because this was his passion. He ws a math teacher for over 30 years and then he umpired over sixty years. The coaches thought this was just a wonderful thing to do. And a lot of the coaches that I talked to dropped out of other tournaments to come here, because of what this was for; the scholarships.”
